Every product has an origin story. The Wave Lamp's started with a question: why does beautiful lighting have to be so expensive, so generic, or so fragile?
The Idea
We wanted a lamp that felt sculptural — something that looked interesting even when it was switched off. Most lamps are invisible until you need them. We wanted ours to earn its place on your desk or bedside table just by existing.
The wave form came naturally. It's one of nature's most satisfying shapes — fluid, dynamic, and endlessly interesting from different angles. The challenge was translating that into something that could actually be made.
Why 3D Printing?
Traditional manufacturing would have killed this design before it started. Injection moulding requires expensive tooling, minimum order quantities in the thousands, and compromises on geometry. A wave with organic curves and varying wall thickness? Not happening at a factory price point.
3D printing changed that equation entirely. With FDM printing and premium PLA+ filament, we could iterate on the form dozens of times — adjusting the curve, the height, the way light diffuses through the walls — without committing to a single unit of stock.
The result is a lamp that genuinely couldn't exist any other way.
Getting the Light Right
The lamp itself is only half the story. The quality of light matters just as much as the form. We tested multiple LED configurations before settling on a USB-powered puck light that sits at the base — warm, dimmable, and replaceable.
The wall thickness of the wave was tuned specifically to diffuse the light softly, avoiding harsh spots or uneven glow. It took eleven iterations to get it right.
