How Long Does It Take to 3D Print a Lamp?

How Long Does It Take to 3D Print a Lamp?

It's one of the most common questions we get at Decolyt. And the honest answer is: longer than you might expect — and that's exactly the point.

First, Let's Talk About What 3D Printing Actually Is

FDM (Fused Deposition Modelling) 3D printing works by melting filament and laying it down layer by layer, building up a three-dimensional object from the ground up. It's precise, repeatable, and capable of producing forms that traditional manufacturing simply can't.

It's also not fast. And that's not a flaw — it's a feature.

How Long Does a Single Lamp Take to Print?

Depending on the design, a single Decolyt lamp takes anywhere from 8 to 32 hours to print. The Wave Lamp, with its flowing curves and carefully tuned wall thickness, sits toward the longer end of that range. Every layer matters — rush it, and the quality suffers.

During that time, the printer is running continuously, monitoring temperature, speed, and layer adhesion. It's not something you can hurry.

What Happens After Printing?

Printing is just the beginning. After the lamp comes off the printer, it goes through:

  • Inspection — checking for layer consistency, surface quality, and structural integrity
  • Post-processing — removing any support material, smoothing edges where needed
  • Assembly — fitting the USB LED puck light and testing the glow
  • Packaging — carefully packed to survive the journey to you

All of this adds another day to the process. Which is why we quote 3–5 business days from order to dispatch.

Why We Don't Keep Stock

Some brands print in bulk and warehouse their products. We don't. Every Decolyt lamp is made after you order it — which means your lamp hasn't been sitting in a box for three months before it reaches you.

It also means we can offer variants (like Warm White vs. Dual Tone on the Wave Lamp, or Smooth vs. Textured on the GlowPod™) without the inventory risk that would force us to limit choices or inflate prices.

Made to order is slower. It's also better.

Is the Wait Worth It?

We think so. You're not buying something off a shelf. You're getting something made — a lamp that didn't exist before you ordered it, built to a standard we'd be happy to keep ourselves.

Most customers tell us it arrives faster than they expected. We'll take that.
